Enrollment is now open for the next IT Academy (ITA) cohort. Evening classes meet Monday-Wednesday, 5:00pm-9:00pm, and the new day class will meet on Monday, Wednesday, and every other Friday from 9:00am-12:30pm. The day cohort is dependent on sufficient interest.

The enrollment period for both day and evening classes opens on October 12th and ends on December 5th.

To begin the enrollment process, individuals need to attend an upcoming information session.
• Thursday, Oct. 11th 5:30pm-6:30pm
• Friday, Oct. 12th 2:00pm-3:00pm
• Thursday, Oct. 18th 5:30pm-6:30pm
• Thursday, Nov. 1st 5:30pm-6:30pm

Information sessions cover important information including the ITA application process, prerequisites, skills learned during training, and financial assistance. There are several programs that assist with covering the cost of training such as the Microsoft Datacenter Scholarship and the Commonwealth’s Workforce Credential Grant Program.

The IT Academy offers short-term, hands-on training leading to CompTIA credentials in A+ and Server+. Classroom instruction and online study tools are paired with hands-on activities in a fully equipped repair center and data center that simulates the real world working environment. ITA participants complete the entire core curriculum within four months, and have the training and skills necessary to start, or advance, their career as an IT technician.

“The IT Academy had a great impact on my career goals. I have a better understanding and knowledge of IT concepts, and I feel confident that I will be able to apply what I’ve learned and begin a career in the field,” said ITA cohort 6 completer Neal Brown.

Past program completers have started IT careers at the datacenters in Clarksville and Boydton and with other regional employers needing IT professionals. Individuals already employed in an IT career have been able to obtain the credentials they need to advance their careers.

Attendance at an information session is required before enrolling in the IT Academy.
